- What services does Tools for Transition provide? We are a full-service company that provides professional resume writing, career coaching and interview coaching.
- How can a professional resume writer help me? We know how to write a resume which will help you get interviews. We create career marketing documents which will help with your job search.
We write for 3 separate audiences. The 1st is for a computer that will search for key words. The 2nd is for someone, such as a recruiter or human resources professional who will scan your resume. The 3rd audience is for a person who will actually read your resume in detail.
Our writers are experienced with properly preparing the resume to meet these specific and different requirements. We do not use templates.
- Who is your professional coach? Irene Marshall, MBA, PhD, has been helping people with their job search for 8 years, first as a recruiter, and now as President of Tools for Transition. She provides career and interview coaching in-person and by phone. Irene can combine coaching and resume writing.
- Are your writers certified? Yes. All of our writers have the stringent CPRW (Certified Professional Resume Writer) designation. Only a select number of writers in the country have earned this certification.
- What other qualifications do your writers have? Our writers are full-time professionals. We maintain active memberships in organizations such as the Professional Association of Resume Writers and Career Coaches, the National Resume Writers' Association, and Career Management Alliance.
All of our writers have different education backgrounds, as high as MBA/PhD. We receive ongoing training in resume writing and career coaching.
- What is your guarantee? We will work until you are 100% satisfied with your resume and other job search documents. We receive regular feedback that most of our clients receive interviews and new jobs soon after completing their resume. The resume writing process also serves for interview preparation.
- Is there a charge to get a review of my current resume? No. We can review your resume and discuss it with you. It usually takes 10 to 15 minutes. We will talk about your current presentation and content. We will also discuss how this might be improved to support your job search. If we think your resume is already fine, we will tell you why.
- What if I don't already have a resume? We work with a lot of people who either don't have a resume, or can't find what they had at one time!
- How long does it take to get a completed resume? Many projects are completed within a few days depending on how quickly we get information back from you. We can accommodate your schedule, as we are used to meeting firm application deadlines.
- How is a resume writing strategy developed? We will have discussed a writing strategy during our initial conversation with you. The best resumes are focused for a particular job search. We provide a "master resume" with guidance in how to use it for different job applications.
"Ideal Job Postings" We will ask you to provide 3 to 4 job postings that are part of your job search. We will look at 1) Type of company and industry; 2) Specific job functions; 3) Candidate requirements. These will be used to focus your resume.
- Why do you use a questionnaire? This will guide you to think about your skills, knowledge, and key career accomplishments.
1st and 2nd Drafts: The first draft will be written using your current resume, our conversation notes, job postings and questionnaire material. You will receive written guidelines on how to review it.
Final version: Most of the time the 2nd draft becomes the final version. You know about your career and job search. We know about writing resumes. It is a collaborative process. You will receive your resume in Word and PDF. You will also receive instructions for converting the Word document to ASCII text.
- What about job search challenges? We also develop resumes that address tough job search challenges. Job search strategies need to be consistent with the resume. Maybe you are currently facing one or more of these situations:

- What about resume updates? You will receive a Word document that you can edit as you wish for your "master resume". We will also keep your resume with our records so we can update it for you.
- What if my current resume is not verifiable? We have worked with many people where the original resume is not completely verifiable. This is an issue throughout the United States, so if this is your situation, you are not alone.
We are strongly committed to helping people confidentially correct this As a former recruiter, we are very aware that job offers can be rescinded by inaccuracies on a resume. - How much will it cost? After conversation on how your new resume can help you get interviews. Our professional fee is determined by how long it will take to write your resume. A typical resume takes 3 - 4 hours - sometimes more, sometimes less. We can start once we have your signed agreement and payment in full.
- How do I pay for services? We use PayPal to process major credit cards such as VISA, MasterCard, Discover, and American Express. A link is available on our website. We can also process credit cards by phone. Checks and cash are accepted. We try to be easy to do business with!
- Are resume services tax deductible? Resume services might be a deductible if you itemize your taxes. Check with your accountant, as we cannot give tax advice.
